Bio
"When I was young, I had two passions," Steven Abernathy recalls, "which kept me in constant motion: music and surfing. As far as I can remember, there is nothing else I could ever imagine myself doing. Not only do I love the spiritual connection I have with the water and the desire of making music, but the enhancement and energy that flows during the process of these is the constant reminder of why I enjoy the life I live."
Steven Abernathy, currently a Nashville-based musician, appears to be a fish out of water, holding a tight grip to his laid-back, carefree mentality that his hometown of Vero Beach, FL so accurately depicts. After Steven's completion of studies at Rollins College in Orlando, FL he knew that music would direct his life. "I felt I had nothing to lose and no other interest to keep me in FL, except for surfing, so I loaded my car with everything I owned and drove north." This carefree attitude Steven possessed allowed him to explore the new city of Nashville without any doubts.
Without wasting any time, Steven began writing for his own project as well as co-writing on others. "I quickly found that Nashville has pockets. It was easy once I found my pocket of creative influences and artists that allowed me to think. Exploring these outlets encouraged me to exist outside of my comfort level." In 2010, Steven released his first independent project called "Waterbug" produced by TMR Records. "Waterbug assisted in defining my future and how I want to share my art of music to the world. My style and maturity as an artist was spearheaded because of that project."
In 2012, Steven finds himself back in the studio. With his heart and mind combined, it is clear that Steven is creating and extension of himself. This project bleeds an organic feel with undertones of funk and blues. Steven's vision and integrity are poured tirelessly into his new project. With its feel good and up-tempo beats, this project embodies a stripped down, soulful acoustic piece of art.
